Styling Hack: How to Turn Any Top Into a Crop Top
When it comes to outfit styling, some combinations look better with a regular shirt and some look better with a crop top—it’s just a fact. Depending on what else you’re wearing, sometimes a long top completes a look, and sometimes a cropped silhouette perfectly balances out a wide-leg pant or high-waisted skirt. But doubling up on the same wardrobe pieces because you want one version that’s cropped and one that isn’t feels wasteful of both money and closet space.
That’s where this genius styling hack comes in. You can turn virtually any shirt into a cropped top with one easy maneuver, seriously. All you have to do is flip the bottom of the shirt under to the desired height, pull the extra fabric towards the back so that it gathers around your spine, twist into a knot and tuck it up into the band of your bra (at the bottom of this page is a video tutorial for a clear visual). This way it holds the shirt in place and since you’re not actually tying the knot you can avoid stretching out the bottom and can continue to wear the shirt full length at a later date.

Another option if you don’t want to twist your shirt or have a bulk of fabric at your back is to fold up the bottom of your shirt and tuck it into the band of your bra all the way around. The bra band holds the shirt in place and as long as you’ve tucked it evenly around your body, you shouldn’t have any extra fabric or bulk. This version works better if the shirt is more fitted, but you can really apply it to any shirt you like.
