The Clean Skincare Edit: 5 Brands to Know

Clean beauty has become a hot topic in recent years, and for good reason—the beauty industry is minimally regulated in the United States and many skincare products contain ingredients that are known to be toxic for our health. Because of this, it’s extremely important that you do your own research on products and brands you’re interested in to determine their ingredients are safe to use everyday. One amazing resource  to do this is on the Skin Deep section of the EWG website (short for Environmental Working Group), which rates products using their standards for transparency and health. Another way to select clean skincare brands is to utilize retailers that have a designated section for showcasing brands that use non-toxic ingredients. Sephora has their “clean at Sephora” stamp, while BlueMercury has their “Conscious Beauty” section, and The Detox Market curates the best in clean beauty. These retailers do the background checks for us and make discovering and shopping clean beauty easy.

Even with all the tools we have available for research and shopping, it can still be confusing on which brands are not only clean but also deliver real results. Since it can also be time consuming to investigate on your own, we thought it would be helpful to share some of the clean skincare brands you should have on your radar. The below 5 brands use non-toxic ingredients that work to address all of your skin concerns and provide results you can see.

Drunk Elephant: Known for their signature colorful packaging, Drunk Elephant has one of the widest selections of non-toxic products. Whether you’re looking for a vitamin C serum, a hyaluronic acid, soothing Marula oil, or tinted sunscreen, Drunk Elephant has all your skincare needs covered. Their T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial is a fan favorite for it’s resurfacing and exfoliating abilities—it contains an AHA blend (including glycolic and lactic acids) to gently resurface the skin to improve texture and clarity.

Biossance: As one of the only Environmental Working Group (aka EWG) verified skincare brands on the market, Biossance delivers real results while using clean ingredients you can feel confident putting on your skin everyday. The Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil is one of their best products as it visibly brightens the skin while simultaneously locking in moisture.

Caudalie: This classic French skincare brand that uses clean ingredients to deliver real results. The Vinoperfect Anti Dark Spot Serum is one of their most beloved products as it eliminates dark spots, evens skin tone, and boosts overall radiance—wear this one underneath your makeup and your skin will be seriously glowing. Their Beauty Elixir can also be found in most makeup bags—this toning mist sets and refreshes makeup while providing an instant glow.

Beautycounter: Not only does this brand create luxurious products that actually work, but their list of banned ingredients is one of the most extensive in the space (which means they go above and beyond to ensure their products are as clean as possible). Their Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream is a fan favorite for its ability to combat the effects of exposure to UV rays and environmental damage.

Tata Harper: This luxurious brand’s philosophy is that more active ingredients equals more results, so they offer clean products that really work. The Repairative Moisturizer and Regenerating Cleanser are a match made in skincare heaven, containing powerful ingredients like hyaluronic acid, fresh enzymes, and botanical oils that work together to create a radiant complexion.
